SAPPORO - TOKYO - ZURICH
After spending 3 weeks in beautiful Japan, i flew home yesterday from Sapporo to Tokyo and then straight 12h to Zurich. Window-seat, what else. As you can see on the little collection i've put together ;)
It feels good to be back home.
But Japan will be always in my heart and i am pretty sure that i will go back there real soon. The 3 weeks went quite fast. First of all because you feel at home straightaway after your arrival in this amazing country! The people, the food.. so great. And then also because i got to travel with really nice fellows plus got tons of inspiration which lead to a few projects i've started and / or finished or will continue.
Once more, what a trip! Thank you Japan!

TAKAMASA IMAI
So today is my last night in Japan before heading back to euroland tomorrow morning early-bird-style!
I shot 2 more portraits today, one is Takamasa, a longtime Car-Danchi-Member and really nice guy as well. And another one of Deshi, he was featured in the movie "In short".

I am in Sapporo now, where i stay 2 days with my swiss-fellows Yves, Dominik and Julian. but already missing the mountains so badly. But i am sure i'll be back soon in this wonderful country, with its great people and the deep Hokkaido-Pow...

NISEKO NIGHTSHRED II
So last night i spent again on the parkinglots to see whats behind those huge snowpiles! And i've found beautiful things..
Cause you liked the last nightshred-photo i've thought i could post another one, since it's my last day here in Niseko before leaving to Sapporo.
In other news: End of December i've shot the lookbook for Clast, as mentioned in an earlier post. Anyway, Clast just spread a blog with some making-ofs from that day.. good times!

MR. HIDEKI TAKEDA
Today i got the honor to portray Mr. Hideki Takeda.
He's the owner of T-Tune in Niseko and he's taking care of all the Gentem-sticks that are slashing the famous Hokkaido-pow! He's also part of the Car Danchi-Movement. I learned a lot today. As i remember right, he started snowboarding when i was 4 years old.. 1982! wow.
That's a photo of my outdoor-studio i am running here in Niseko. One of my 4 assistants shot it. I could have needed even 1 or 2 more, since the setup was quite heavy and difficult to build.. haha
I am leaving tomorrow to Sapporo. Wonder how that turns out..

CAR DANCHI RECAP
Here's a picture i shot on our Car Danchi-Adventure.
There is Alvaro walking towards our Car to discuss something. He probably just wanted to steal some of my cookies as he did sometimes.. haha
It has, no doubt, been the best snowboard-trip so far i've done in the last few years. Great people, good snowboarding, fun times, delicious food, thousand jokes, a million laughs, daily onsen, cold nights, lots of hiking, good training for my knee, no shredding for myself unfortunately but tons of great pictures and a one of a kind adventure for sure for everybody. Thanks boys!!

NEW WORK

NISEKO NIGHTSHRED!
Niseko offers everyday nightshred until 9pm. I was lurking around on the parkinglots anyways, so that's why i shot this photo. Things are rolling here, get to work lots on my personal projects and eating delicious food.. good times!

JAPAN AIN'T OVER YET
So the boys left back to Europe! What a trip it was. It felt like 2 months of traveling but it was only 2 weeks.. good sign!
I am staying 6 more days and i'll be pretty busy with lurking around on the big parkinglots here in Niseko. Cause i just started a new series here. And no, it's not about big snowpiles.. ;)

ON THE WAY TO NISEKO
We just drove 5h to Niseko for our last stop on our trip here in Japan. Snow looked not too good when we arrived but since last night it dumped a bit. Tonight we're going to explore the nightshred here. Sooo looking forward to this.
We got 2 more days before the boys are leaving back to Europe. I will stay another 6 days on my own while working on 2 personal free projects here. Wish me luck!

Today we hiked for soooo long! But we found a really nice zone.
On the photo you see Alvaro, checking out one of the features. We had mostly bluebird today and the snow is still great.
Unfortunately i still can't ride but i am happy for the boys and as long as i get the shots i am more then happy too.

We're still out pretty much all day, hiking the zones and getting the goods. Today was a very productive day for me and my knee liked it also.

CAR DANCHI FOR LIFE!
So the Car Danchi - part is over for now. What a blast it was! For sure i am gonna turn my car at home into a real danchi as well as soon as i am back in switzerland!
I am working on two personal projects during my time here in Japan. One of them is about portraits. Stay tuned!
We're staying now in a small resort with only 1 lift. On the way there i've seen one of my photos of Nicholas in a japanese Magazine called Snowstyle.. yoku dekimashita!

BLOTTO CLAIMED IT!
Damn Blotto, you claimed our ride already! haha
We're good, very good. Living it up big times, Car Danchi ichiban!
Usually getting up early around 7, preparing ourselfs, cooking noodles, brushing our tooth. Then leaving the Danchi around 9, hiking and shredding and shooting the zone. Around 4 returning to the Danchi and then straight to the Onsen next to the parking lot. Relaxing in the hot tubs until maybe 7, then straight cooking dinner followed by a few beers and then straight to bed in the back of the Danchi. We're sleeping 5 guys in that thing. Good times for sure! And not the way you think.. haha
Snowconditions are epic. Seriously. Never saw that amount of snow..

GETTING THERE!!!
So after quite a long travel we finally arrived somewhere in the hokkaido-area. Conditions look great and it's freezing cold..
But we already ate delicious ramen so our guide Shinya is taking good care of us as you can imagine.
Tomorrow we're leaving the village and starting with our car danchi-adventure.. can't wait!

GOING TO JAPAN!!!
So today i booked my flight to Sapporo for tomorrow morning.. woohoo! I think i've never been that spontaneous regarding my travels. Here's what's up:
We're joining the Car Danchis and living it up big times. Never heard of Car Danchi? Check'em out here or here! They basically live to snowboard. It's a tight crew of friends that live the entire winter in their cars. Driving from pass to pass and hiking the good spots in the whole hokkaido-area. The photo shows our home for the next few days. I mean, can it get any better?
It is a huge honor to be invited by those guys and i am so thankful for this opportunity! I was waiting 2 years for this moment.. honestly, i am soooo stoked right now!
Can't sleep.. i am too excited!!

BACK TO LIFE!
So i am back to life. The surgery went well, Doctor Wartmann was happy with what he saw! No more hospital. The only thing left are the crutches. I gotta live with them for the next 10 days, then i am free as a bird, again! Can't wait.
Here's a picture of a series i did for Steffi Biggel. She's a young fashion-designer from Zurich, Switzerland and i shot her look book last year.

BELOVED JULIER PASS
The Julier Pass between Chur and St. Moritz is my most favourite pass in Switzerland!
Every time i go there it looks different then the last time but it stays beautiful as always! I love it.
Working in St. Moritz was great. The Hotel was super nice but i think i'd never get used to a standard like this where people carrying your bags, driving your car in the garage, opening the door for you and last but not least smiling at you and being overall gentle all day long 24/7/365!
All in all it was a great great experience spending a few days there and document the UBS-Global-Philanthropy-Forum 2011.

ZH - LAUSANNE - ZH
I love my job! Especially when i get to travel by train.
Sitting in a train is like going to a movie: You have to buy a valid ticket and when the door opens, you can go in and sit down on the seat you've bought. Most probably you will not be the only person there but usually you're all good with that. Also: If you're hungry, you don't have to walk far to feed your needs. And: Once it started, the adventure begins..
Sitting in a train is the best real-life-documentary!

NEWEST FRIDAY
I am jumping in the weekend with a photo of mine in the newest Friday-Magazine. Dropping out this afternoon all over Switzerland: Hans-Jakob Mühlethaler and his brother Karl-Ludwig.
I shot this last week in Zurich on a beautiful thursday afternoon. Hänsu and Lodi, as they introduce them self, have been super easy to work with. More of Hänsu you can see here!
Last night has been the premiere of "Off Beat", Jan Gassmann's newest movie. Hänsu is playing "Luki", one of the leading parts. The movie is great. Really great! Good actors, great filming, harmonious pictures, a lot of melancholy right there and an even better soundtrack!

So we're back in Switzerland.
Just spent the weekend in Bern for the Illume- and the Shots-Exhibitions.
They both went well with a lot of visitors and a happy party-crowd in the evening!

Yesterday we've been to Coney Island. After seeing a few books about it i was super curious to go there.. well, we're not on the typical tourist-trip while in NYC.. but we just HAD to go to Coney Island! At least for Nathan's famous Hot-Dogs.. haha

OVERNIGHT WINTER
After a tough week of doing a lot of things and sometimes even on the same time, i've had to spend the weekend with my girlfriend in the beautiful engadin-valley!
On the photo you can see the view from our balcony on sunday late-late afternoon and then next to it on monday early morning: 45cm of fresh snow during the night! Crazy.
And now back on track for the week until saturday and then off to NYC..

2 MANY PHOTOS, NOT ENOUGH SLEEP
This past weekend i've shot a lot of photos but didn't get enough sleep at all.
10 hours of working in Lausanne, then 3 hours sleep followed by another 3 hours in the train which lead into 14 h of shooting which i rewarded with 5 h of sleep in the back of my car...
In Lausanne i've found this "face"..
All in all super fun times!
Gotta go to bed now..

Today i've spent a lot of time doing the selection for the upcoming show in Winterthur. It's quite a process.. as always. This time it's different. More intense and personal.. but i am slowly getting somewhere..
I don't really know yet how my wall is going to look like by the end of October. So you'd better come and see yourself!
One thing that's for sure: I am going to print at Tricolor. Those guys are killing it big time!

MUOTTAS MURAGL
As i wrote yesterday, we've been on Muottas Muragl in the beautiful Engadin-Valley. On top on 2456m above sealevel they installed a piece of art from this guy!

ROLLIN' ROLLIN' ROLLIN'...
Wow, just had an awesome time assisting with these guys! We drove quite a bit and slept on 2500m above sealevel on a new hotel in the beautiful engadin-valley! I've even found a thing or two up there that was worth a photo, more about this soon.
On the way home my car turned "100'000", congrats buddy!! I love you.

GRIMSEL II
On my way to Zermatt i stopped by the Grimselpass.
In the middle of the night i somehow woke up and saw this in front of me.. it wasn't hard to get in my shoes and jacket again and grab my camera and my tripod..
This post is called Grimsel II, cause i already went there once but had to go home without any photo from that night. Because my object of desire was hiding all night behind the fog..
But i really really hope it will be soon a "Grimsel III" with a proper photo of the "thing"...

CAMPING IN ZERMATT
So as mentioned in the post before, i finally have been to Zermatt to work with the beauty of the alps, the Matterhorn. She was very, very calm, gentle and patient with me. A true professional! I mean, she's into this since a few years now..
I took my hiking-equipment including sleeping-bag and some food and drove up to Zermatt. After a hike down on the Gornergrat-side i've found THE perfect place to shoot, hangout and sleep. I read a bit until the sun went down, then i cooked delicious pasta and enjoyed the quietness out there. The two of them (moon and matterhorn) got along so well together that night and made it an easy one for me. Around 2pm i fall asleep in my sleepingbag after seeing several shootingstars..
I love my job!

I planned going to Zermatt since quite some time now. But it never was perfect regarding the moon and the weatherforecast. So this weekend i finaly packed my hikingshoes and my sleepingbag and drove up there on saturday afternoon.

ILLUME - EXHIBITION BERN
Good news right here! October is going to be my "official" exhibition-month. 3 different group-exhibitions in 2 different cities. Crazy!
That's going to be intense for sure! But i am not complaining at all ;)
From the 14. - 23. Red Bull is coming to Bern with their huge Illume-Show. It's going to be their only stop-over here in switzerland. So you better be there.. i will!
Also super happy that they've selected one of my 2 final-photos on their visual! yes.

THIS MAKES MY LIFE SO MUCH EASIER..
Those guys that have invented "whatsapp" are my heros! Cause besides i am using it quite often i recently found out, that it can help during locationscouting.
For example last saturday i've been on the train and suddenly saw this great "thing" i wanna photograph in the middle of nowhere, no way to find this again by car! So in no time i've saved my own location... I love it!
Besides: This week is about assisting, working on the portfolio and own shootings and some things i gotta organize for a big shoot next week for one of my biggest inspirations at all. And if you're in the Salzburg-area, please check out this!

MY HOOD
This one i took yesterday night right outside my flat. That's what my hood looks like. I love the light and the mood! Don't you wanna know whats behind that black entrance? There is actually a better one that i am going to show you real soon.
There goes a little story with it:
After 2min there came this old, grumpy and drunken man walking towards me. Yelling and shouting like there is no tomorrow. He told me very, very bad things about me but somehow i didn't pay any attention at all to him and after yelling and screaming for like 5min, he just left...
I have to admit that i was standing next to my camera / tripod and wasn't even moving, talking nor anything else.
However, i got what i came for.

It has been a lot going on and recently i've spent some decent time on the road!
I am very inspired by so many great photographers and artists. Also i am so glad about all the work i've found and seen that "lands in my monthly inspiration-folder on my desktop. Like the ones to the left!
Apart from that, i am working on 2 quite interesting group-exhibitions that are coming up this late October. I am going to show 2 totally different projects in 2 also very different cities. So so looking forward to all of this.. yes

I shot this photo a few years ago for an editorial for Pleasure-Magazin. David was born in Peru, but he's living in switzerland nowadays.
We were on this farm where 20+ donkeys live. All white and nosy.. fun animals!

I recently shot Nicolas Müller at Mt. Titlis. We built a huge corner up there and rode and shot it for a few days. Gigi, Gian and Markus joined us as well.
Nah, kidding. That session was held couple years ago when i was fully into shooting snowboarding. It was quite a good session i must say. And Nicolas Müller is for sure one of my favorite shredders out there!

HISTORICAL DIVING
I've just finished working in the studio. We shot today an original and historical diving-suit including everything they used back in the day and actually still use today.
The whole suit including air-chambers, shoes, helmet with microphone etc. is about 60kg. Tough job for the model for sure!

ERRATIC BOULDER II
I am in the office around 12hours pretty much every day working on a few different projects. If i do longterm-projects or shootings with a concept, the time i spend shooting is maybe a fifth of the whole thing. Or even less. So right now i am mostly brainstorming, researching and talking to people on the phone to get things together. I love this part of my job a lot! Getting an idea, writing it down, putting it away for some time, looking at it again, changing parts of it, start researching, some more brainstorming, testing lights or whatever... there's an endless list.
So there's another boulder i've found thanks to google-earth. It's a bit far away from Zurich but sure worth a visit.

Yesterday i got the honor to work with Bernard Purdie himself. He's a true legend. Mr. Purdie has worked with all of them: James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Miles Davis, Isaac Hayes, Cat Stevens or Ivan 'Boogaloo Joe' Jones, to only name a few.
He truly got class and a whole lot of style! Wow.

SALBIT-BIVOUAC
Monday - tuesday i've spent on the Salbit-bivouac on 2400m above sealevel in the heart of switzerland. Lucky us, we got even a heli-flight up there.. ;)
We spent more or less the whole night and the whole morning shooting landscapes since the moon was super close to earth. Less then 4 hours we spent in the bivouac sleeping.. or at least trying to sleep. Cause it's super tough falling a sleep on such a high altitude. The bivouac was a real 'emergency-hut' that included couple mattresses and a table. No electricity nor heating. That's about it. Plus i've eaten up there the best risotto in a loooong time.. so so good! Big ups to our cook guide Hans.
That's a little impression i've taken with my G10 at around 5.30am.

FULLMOON II
So as i mentioned in the last post, i went last night to see that huge erratic boulder that has been laying there since a few thousand million years!
I found THE perfect setup:
Beautiful moonlight at it's best, quietness, nothing disturbing around it and a road close to it where i brought my car in position. I used my good old Opel as a reflector since its all white and quite big. It lit up the dark side of the rock perfectly.

SUNSHINE..
..reminds me of this shooting i did last season. We left Zurich at 1.30 a.m. to be at the spot at 6 a.m. sharp! I wanted to use the perfect 15min where the shadow just left the coping and the rider is in the sun.. and to top it all: It was actually the last day of the season where the pipe was groomed!
After the shoot we all slept for a bit on benches under the sun. Before we left we ate some tasty "Kaasspatzl" with extra cheese before heading back to Zurich where we arrived around 2 p.m. .. crazy

Yesterday i have visited beautiful Lucerne. I've taken portraits of young actress Sabrina Wirz. We spent the whole morning under the sun on a wooden boat-house at lake lucerne. Her mother made delicious homemade pizza for lunch.

TREE IN JAPAN

Here's another one i took on Matsuyama-Island. All our japanese friends couldn't really understand why Yves and I went to visit that place, since it's mostly known for THE ichiban (number one) spot where japanese grandparents spend their vacations. We loved it, despite being some of the youngest in the place. Or maybe that was the reason.. haha

FINALY ON-BOARD, AGAIN..
After 6 days of assisting in a row, i wanted to go snowboarding so badly. And since my car gets a make-over rightnow, i decided to get away from the city by doing it like back in the days: by bike, bus and train!
It felt soo good today, since quite some fresh powder was waiting for me at my homeresort!
Ahhh.. snowboarding is still my most favorite thing to do besides taking photos.

A WEEK-LONG...
... no update means either i am working all the time OR i am sick! This time the 2 came together but at least with a perfect timing, if there is such a thing as a perfect timing regarding getting sick.
Anyway. My friend Yves Suter sent me another picture of my cover in Snowstyle since he's travelling in Japan for couple weeks. Funny to see it right next to "Salt" and "Lure" at the newsstand. So cool!!! Thanks Yves.

Been assisting the half of last week for Jonas Unger. He was shooting only on film, which was quite inspiring! Gotta dig out my beloved A2 again...
The annual ISPO-tradeshow in Munich is on. Yesterday night the guys at rhythm held their party with some live-tattoo-thingy (wonder who was brave enough) and an art-exhibition. Paintings, photos... There were 3 prints of mine hanging as well.. hope to post some photos soon, since i couldn't join the show myself.
Good news: The guys at snowstyle japan put my photo of Nicholas Wolken on their recent cover! For this picture we left zurich last spring at 1.30 a.m. to be at the location at 6.00 a.m.! Imagine. We shot 15min and then the magic moment was gone.. Thank you, Nicholas, for getting up that early. It was totally worth it!

WORKING ON MY PORTFOLIO
It takes quite some time and effort to do your own portfolio-book. I am glad, that we got so much space in the studio to shove the photos around on the floor before making actual prints.. Plus it helps so much, not doing this on the screen..
I am still at the very beginning of it, but slowly getting somewhere.
My goal is to be 90% 100% ready by the middle of February. But since next month will be super busy with assisting and couple own shoots, it might take a bit longer..

Yesterday i spent all afternoon, night and a lot of todays morning in Basel, shooting the Red Bull Soundclash at Kaserne! Such a good atmosphere, great bands, good people.. good times.

Yesterday i spent the day in Basel. We shot the new collection of fashion-designer Steffi Biggel. Location was a uninhabited house outside the city.
We left pretty much everything the way we found it. It just worked out perfectly. In some rooms it was very, very stylisch, perfectly arranged and clean. But just in the next room it was all messed up..

JULIER
Yesterday night i drove with a friend on the Julierpass. Since it was almost fullmoon plus the sky pretty much clear, i spent the night shooting outside and enjoying the total silence. Here's a preview of yesterday.
After the shooting we slept right on top of the pass in my camper-car. Wasn't even that cold, but good memories and even better sleep as always. Love it!

SOME KINKI BULLRIDING UNDER THE FULLMOON IN BASEL!
Wednesday is fullmoon again, so i might hide somewhere in the woods or in the mountains..
Besides: I am trying to work it out in a few competitions rightnow. A lot of things are going on these days. Wow. Plus i am working on different own projects. Some with people, some with animals, some with landscapes... more to come soon!
Saturday i'll be in Basel shooting the annual Red Bull - Soundclash event at Kaserne! This time it's gonna be "7$T" against "Da sign and the opposite"! Can't wait...

TENT-RESTAURANT
I am still working on the pommel-horse-photos. Many good ones. It's so hard to cut them down..
And before turning crazy about this i went outside to shoot this tent-thinggy which turns into a restaurant during nighttime!
I think it fits quite well to a series i was starting back in Japan. Which i still have to edit.. too many pictures, not enough time.. haha

POMMEL-HORSE OUTTAKES
Here's one of the only 2 times where Marc fell off the horse.. nothing happend, of course. We had invisible ropes in the whole studio, holding him back by falling on the floor. Yep.
Yesterday night i've visited the speech of Mr. Marco Grob. He's a big inspiration since quite some time and now even more.

MARK RAMSEYER
Today i had Mark in my studio. He's a professional gymnast. We shot several moves on a very old pommel horse! For sure one of the coolest shootings ever. That pommel horse is such a beauty, all leather, old but still in a very good shape, wooden handles.. wow.
Much respect to GraphicArt for providing me with a lot of equipment for this project! Thank you guys!!!

ENGADIN!
Today i woke up suuuper early like 5.30am to go to the beautiful engadin-valley.
I teamed up with my friends at Clast to spend a fun day shooting and shredding. We shot the new collection again, but this time in the snow and in action. It was perfect light today and the biggest softbox available up in the sky all day long...
On the way to St. Moritz i drove my car over Julier-pass, which looked amazing today with all the snow. I spent already some time there shooting in the moonlight couple months ago, but it's also quite interesting during day-time.

CREDIT-SUISSE BULLETIN
This past summer i was doing an editorial-job for the swiss bank credit-suisse.
They asked for portraits of 4 teenagers. 1 from each language-area of switzerland. I did the whole scouting myself which was quite an adventure, specially in the french-part. Then i visited the 2 girls and the 2 boys at their home.
It was a great experience plus i am super happy about the outcome. The Bulletin is such a highquality magazine with great paper and a simple layout. Exactly what i like.

FROM MUNICH TO SALZBURG
Sunday evening, Lozza picked me up in Munich to go to Salzburg for an upcoming job the very next day! We shot Thierry Henry, the soccer-player. Thierry was super gentle and gave us 20min before heading to the next interview..

MUNICH
I spent the weekend in Munich. Friday i went to see Katharina. She's specialized in doing portfolios for photographers. So after we discussed the size i elected a nice leather and now i gotta wait! Hope to get it by the end of the year...
In the afternoon i went to see my friends over at Pleasure to discuss couple upcoming projects and the season in general. I am still super happy to work for them as senior-photographer!
Saturday i visited Yvonne and Simon over at Hannibal's. They got themself a pretty cool little store / studio where they produce super cool men-clothing! I am so happy now for my 2 new pairs of trousers.. ;)
P.s.: Their summer-collection is gonna be so so good!

MOSCOW_RECAP 01
Wow, what a city. What an event. What a good time we had..
We're already planning of going there again. I was so stoked having 2 friends of mine visiting Moscow at the same time. Yves Suter and his friend Dominik Betschart, who stayed pretty much the whole time with us. Might be springtime.. but we're most definetly going there again..
On the photo you can see from left to right Tim McKenna, Blotto, Leo Sharp and Lozza, as we just left our Hotel to cross the Red-Place on our way to the daily exhibition-visit! And what we found there you can see on the 2nd picture.. medias from all over. I gave more interviews in those 5 days then the last 32 years... ;)

WORK
So the show yesterday went pretty well, a really nice location, a lot of people, great photos from some of the best in boardsports-photography and many many interviews! The russians seriously know how to celebrate things like that! Can't wait for tonight ;)
Other than that, i just got the final-file from a job i did a few weeks ago for swiss insurance-company Sanitas. In Co-operation with ROD i did 3 different sports: Skateboarding, Figureskating and Fencing! Hope to show the other 2 real soon.

MOSCOW OR HOW TO DEAL WITH -20 DEGREES!
After quite an adventure we, Lozza and me, arrived in Moscow, Russia. I've never been there before and as far as i can tell now, i can't wait to explore the city. Even if it's -20 degrees or something.
Tomorrow starts the opening of the exhibition. People told us, it's gonna be a huge thing... let's see what they did.
I am getting messages from all over the world "you're in Moscow? No way!" And i have to admit, that i am extremly happy about being here. I love my job and i am very thankful!

WINTER IS HERE!
It's getting colder and colder. Yesterday night it even snowed for the first time here in zurich. Just a little, tough. Winterseason is around the corner!
For those who do not like this fact, i found a photo from Marocco from last may. It was super warm and sunny...
Anyway. Next 4 days i am on the road for some assistance-work, then 1 day home and then 5 days Moscow for the exhibition.

ARGENTINA 2008
This is a photo i took in Cerro Bayo, Argentina, while doing a 4-week-long documentary about snowboarding in Argentina. The story got published in 3 different Magazines like Pleasure, Whitelines and Snowboard-mag Italy!
I'd love to go back there one day. Such an amazing country with even more amazing people!

OBERGURGL, AUSTRIA
I've just came home from an assignment-job. We've been in Obergurgl, Austria, for my first on-snow-shooting this season.
Everything went well, weather was great, snow slushy, jacuzzi hot and the "Käsespätzle" delicious! But i can't show the actual photo yet.
Tomorrow i am doing some more location-scouting for an upcoming shooting this week for swiss photographer Chris Tribelhorn in and around zurich and then i am off for 2 days in Munich for visiting pleasuremag and hannibal and getting my portfolio-book done. Looking forward to all of this since a few months now! yeah

Here's another image that none of the magazines ever printed!
It shows austrian snowboarder Marc Swoboda, ollieing against a strong wind.. somewhere in Argentina in the summer of 2007!
I love how the wind is blowing up the hood of Marc's jacket. I exactly felt the same in this moment. I think i forgot even my thin-gloves that day.. was freezing cold! Plus the cloud behind Marc puts him in a beautiful light.
Snow + a timeless Trick named Ollie + perfect daylight + black&white = one of my alltime-favourites!

WORKING DAY AND NIGHT
Yesterday i've been working again on a personal project. I love the quietness of the night. In some way i feel a bit like a burglar. Sneaking through the streets, to tiptoe around houses, trying not to cough, mobilephone on quiet-mode but if someone is seeing me, smiling at the people and eventually starting to talk to them, letting them feel that i am not stealing anything, at most a certain moment that i'd capture with my camera.
So near my studio i found this busstop where they placed such a real looking commercial.. ah wait: That's for real!
It's probably gone by tomorrow...
Also: book III needs to be refreshed... update soon!

GRIMSEL 2008
Today i went through my archive from 2008 - 2009. And there i found some interesting landscapes from the Grimsel-pass i took 3 seasons ago. I remember we spent a week on this Hospice. You can't really get there in winter. The road is closed and there are no public-lifts. Thanks to Davide and his boys we got the chance to use those trams and to hang out on this hut for some time.
In one way it's true: Since digi took over in photography, the whole thing with developing in the labs, waiting, looking at the negs on the lighttable.. the whole process.. everything has changed! But for me this is pretty similar. I took that photo 3 years ago, never really looked at it that close. And now couple years later, it pops in my eye and i am so enjoying it now. Like a good, old wine.. gets better and better...

NEW PORTRAITS

As mentioned in an older post, i am going to Moscow for an exhibition in early december. From the 1. till the 5th i am going to be there. Looks like it's gonna be a huge thing. Somehow i can't post that link in here, don't know why. But for those who are curious and / or speak russian: type in "creager pirumova" in google and it's right the first link on top! go on goggle-translate to get the idea. I never do this normally.. but hey, it's russian ;)
There are 7 invited international plus 4 russian photographers. I read something about prints the size up to 3m... well, let's see how it goes! Would be amazing to see that...

Japan was sucha blast! I had "not to look at the photos" for a while. Too much impression and inspiration! So after almost 2 weeks i went through them all over again. And the funny thing is, i am totally sticking with my first selection. But i realised that i should split them into series.

AFTER THE RAIN COMES SUN!
So so true.
Today i broke the chain on my bicycle halfway on my way to work. So i took the bus. Since they were only 3 stops i didn't buy a ticket for it. Of course they controlled the whole bus and gave me a fine! Murphy's law, hello!
But: After the rain comes sun!
So this day ended up with an invite for an exhibition in Moscow, Russia, this december. Hope it all works out. I'd be super happy to finally get there! Plus i got my name written on my airplane-meals. Who else does? Yes!

WORK FOR KINKI-MAGAZINE
For a future-article in KINKI, i am working on a documentary about bands. The 1st out of 3 shoots was yesterday evening. So imagine the following scene:
6 guys in a dirty rehearsal room somewhere in a basement playing fairly loud music. In the middle me, walking around and shooting the boys. All of a sudden this guy named Anthony steps in the room and just peers at us for some time. Then he tells me: "You should better take photos of me, i am a drummer as well!"
Usually i don't like when people tell me to take photos of them. But with Anthony i knew right away that i just have to. Go 49er's!

MULLFOON I
Yesterday i drove up to Julier-Pass which is between Chur and St. Moritz. I took advantage of the Fullmoon. Not that he affects me at all, but i thought it could be a good idea spending the night outside in this beautiful area, plus not to carry heavy light with me since it was already there and even for free plus sleeping in my hippie-car is always great!
The image to the left: I wasn't expecting a car coming at 3a.m. I even didn't realise it until it was already halfway through the curve. But somehow i like the picture a lot.
The rest of the series looks a bit different, no artificial lights in there. I think i am going there again by the next fullmoon...

MATSUYAMA I
Today we took the ferry-boat from Hiroshima to Matsuyama, which is located on Shikoku-Island. And i must say, it was the best idea to do this. No tourists at all, super laid-back and interesting things behind every corner. And to top it all: Home of one of Japan's most famous Onsen's, hai! Originally we planned to stay only one night but after what we saw this afternoon we have to stay longer.

News-from-Nippon the... i don't know
Been a lot of updates recently. We're in Hiroshima rightnow. Only me and Yves Suter. We've rented some bikes and drove through the whole city. Mainly in the more quiet areas. So so good. Good food, nice people, everything so peaceful..
Tomorrow we're going to take the fairy to some place i just forgot with a famous Onsen.. hai!
But now it's Okonomiyaki-time! That's my favourite japanese-food of all time...

News-from-Nippon X
So we're back in Goma, at Alex' father's place. The last exhibition is going on and in exchange for everything we are cooking for the community some "Älpler-Röschti"!
One more week to go. Tomorrow we're heading towards Hiroshima, where we'll stay couple days and nights, then going to the seaside and then Osaka for the weekend before flying home on late sunday evening. Looking forward to everything. Back in Switzerland, smart as we are, we bought the JR-Railpass which allows us to travel on most of japanese railways. Good thing: It already paid off, so we're travelling now for free. I like!
Here's a photo from last night. Goma is a very sleepy country-town. There is nothing going on after 8p.m.

We've been in Nara yesterday, which is outside Kyoto. Beautiful old temple and those very tame deers. I am not very interested in sightseeing-tours with hundreds of tourists. So to be honest, i just went there to see the deers. But it was worth it, even if they didn't really pay attention to me ;)

N-f-N VIII
We're still in Kyoto till tomorrow. Been out working almost every night. So good here. I am so inspired by country and people.
The whole country is so clean, so graphically and perfectly arranged. Every little thing has it's place, nothing really lays around. Specially in the night you get to see this even more.

We're in Kyoto now. Tomorrow is the Opening of our Show @ Kinrinkan-Gallery. Looking forward to this.

In between i am doing a lot of scouting and shooting. Mostly landscapes during the night. Such an inspiring country. We're already in the 2nd half of our stay in japan. Still 2 more weeks to go. Yes!

Couple days ago Red Bull unveiled their finalists for this years Illume-Award.
Lucky me, i got into the final with both of my pictures. I am so happy about this. The cut was huge from more then 20'000 images down to the top 50! Unfortunatly i couldn't join the show in Dublin with the other swiss-guys like Howzee or Silvano. But i bet they had good times up there..
Yesterday's exhibition @ No. 12-Gallery went pretty well. Update soon. Speaking of exhibitions: next week tuesday the 7th we're going to go to Ari Marcopolous' show here in Tokyo in the Vacant-Gallery! Can't wait to see that. Yes. And we just relocated into a fancy hostel in Shinjuku called "NUTS".. priceless

eleven-advertisement
Since the first magazines are in-print with the new eleven-campaign, i can show now what i did for next winter! Please have a look under "commercials" for the rest of it.
It's probably the first b/w-ad-campaign from a snowboard-outerwear-brand. Since last year was so colorful and flashy we decided to do something new, something different and all with daylight. But to be honest, it was a mission, seriously: 6 months from the first idea to the last picture! Weather was not on our side. But everyone was so into it. The riders Ursina Haller, Steve Gruber and Brandon Reis plus all the helpers we had and all the friendly people at eleven: Thank you all so much!
I am really, really glad and happy how it turned out! Hope you like it as well..

News-from-Nippon II
Yesterday we drove up to the mountains to a place close to Nagano. For those who didn't know: Switzerland's very own Gian Simmen wrote history back in 1998 taking home gold in snowboarding's first ever olympic's! Also, it looked like the Versasca-Valley in Ticino / Switzerland. So similar. Tomorrow we've planned to shoot some scenery there.
Anyway. We ended up in a great local-spot, ordering lots of fish and beer before taking our (almost) daily onsen-bath. The image shows the scenery there.

Zurich - Doha - Osaka - Goma or News-from-Nippon the 1st
We've arrived savely in Goma, Japan. Alex' father, Detlef Schauwecker, picked us up at the airport in Osaka. Goma counts around 300 habitants and is located 2h outside Osaka on the countryside.
Japan is amazing! Such a beautiful country with super friendly people. The only tough thing to deal with are the hot and humid temperatures during the day: 34degrees! But we found already the solution for it: Onsen-Spa's! Good times.
On the photo to the left are some wonderful clouds high above Islamabad. Thanks to Qatar-Airways for making this happen!

Helen again
I am so happy i could work with Helen last Friday.
She's so natural, calm and down to earth! When she left, i said: "It's ok if you leave now. I'll clean the studio myself!" She was like: "Ah, ok. Uhm.. i can help you with that of course!" Everybody was smiling at her .. ;)
Here's a little teaser of Helen. More to come soon.
Little note on the side: when i am back from Japan i will have a great place around good people where i'll call it my "office and studio". Looking forward to this.

Yesterday i shot an outfit for fashion-design-student Nadine Burkhardt.
Model was Helen from Option. It was actually her 2nd shooting at all. No one realised this, she was so into it and 100% on it!

The Blox I
Today i was busy getting some work done for my book.
It was actually the 4th time that we tried to shoot on this location outside Zurich. But every single time we had to cancel our plans in the very last few minutes. Either the girl got sick, the weather turned very bad, ... you name it
Which was, of course, very exhausting for all of us. All the phonecalls again for all the permissions, telling everybody that it's cancelled, organising the equipment and so on.
But now it's done. Here's a little teaser. Stay tuned!

Portfolio-update in book III
Last january during a super cold morning i asked strangers if they'd give me 1 minute of their time. Most of the persons said yes, even though it was even colder not walking and standing still!
Also new, are the portraits of Jarno Trulli, the F-1-Driver.
There soon will be, hopefully, book IV with a whole new segment of photos. Looking forward to this.

The Dirksens
Yesterday, Fabienne Reuteler became Josh Dirksen's wife! They celebrated their wedding at a beautiful place high above lake zurich with their families and close friends.
Fabienne and Josh, they truly love each other. I bet everyone, not only Fabienne, felt chicken-skin when Josh had his speech about his "1st and only love"! wow.
It was also my first wedding with camera since 6 years. It was such a great experience for me. They let me do totally my own thing, since they didn't wanted to have the "regular" weddingpictures.

After 2007's big success, this is the 2nd edition of worlds biggest actionsport-photography-award. From almost 23'000 photos they made a huge cut down to 250 which is followed by a cut down to the 50 final-images! The ones to the left are still in the game.
Unveiling of the finalists is today in one month in Dublin, Ireland.

The boys are back in town!
We're back from camping in the wilderness.
Again, a great experience! 5 days far far away from any civilisation. Only bees, cows, goats, a beautiful lake, a good book, a good friend and a tent.
This is the lake we were camping. I took those photos on the 2nd day in the morning. Very inspiring.

Japan I
August the 23rd, we're leaving for a month to Japan.
On the schedule are 3 exhibitions in Tokyo, Goma and Kyoto plus lots of fun with the Whaleforce-Collective!
Cause we are all a "Child of mother nature"...

Done.
That was a super fun night at the "Baur au Lac" we had yesterday.
There were more then 50 young people from all over the world, celebrating and laughing. Good times.
I am pretty happy about the outcome from the 2 weeks. We gonna cut down the photos into a tight selection which is gonna go in print so everyone gets an own coffee-table-book as a memory! Here are some snapshots from the Gala-dinner.
I am off now for camping. Seriously.

Last day of work
Today is my last day of that 2-week-documentary i've been working on recently.
Been pretty funny but also hard work. Like most of the time.
So here are some impressions from the last 2 weeks. Of course these are not the final images, but unfortunatly i am not allowed to show any faces of the people. Still pretty interesting photos that show perfectly the mood.
Next week i am going into vacation and it's all about this:
- 2 friends
- 1 tent
- a lot of food, books...
- 1 week in the wilderness of Ticino
And last but not least: A pair of trunks, since we camp right next to a small mountain-lake! Enjoy summer,

It's summer, finaly.
I am pretty busy, doing a 2-week-documentary for a swiss-bank.
Yesterday we've been at the lake, but unfortunately no time for a swim. At least for me.

Busy times
Just been on my second last snow-shoot for this season.
Originaly i planned to finish my season middle of May with the eleven-campaign-Shoot. The idea is all about daylight and since it was hardly never good, it all took so long. So last weekend it was number 3 out of 4. Rider was Steve Gruber and i visited him on his home-mountain in Hintertux for 2 days.
Totally happy about the outcome! Can't wait to post it here...
So number 4 is coming up real soon too, if the weather is on our side.
On the photo you see Steve on the right and some weirdo-photographer with some burka-thing on his head on the left....;)

Busy days
Today i was again on my bike, scouting the city. Found some interesting locations in beautiful daylight. After that i went for a swim, worked on my tan, ate breakfast and then did another portfolio-test in the afternoon.
Life's great. I've been working and assisting almost every day the last 2 weeks. Which leads to a lot of inspiration, like yesterday. If you don't know him yet, please have a look at Juventino's.
P.s.: Photography is the best thing that ever happend to me.

Last days in the snow...
Since almost 3 weeks i was checking the weather-forecast on a daily basis. But nothing else then rain.. very depressing. I am not finished with my season yet, there are 2 more project waiting.
Today was the last possibility to do one of them for this season, since the pipe in Kaunertal is closing tomorrow. Couple phonecalls and Markus Keller, Nicholas Wolken and i were on it: Wake-up-call @ 1.30 a.m.! I wanted to get the beautiful and strong morning-light...
I am super happy how it turned out. Hope to show you the real piece soon...

last weekend...
.. i shot for "SI-style", a swiss magazine about fashion and celebrities, at the energy-fashion-night here in zurich.
I spent half of the evening in the vip-room, shooting switzerland's celebs and some other people, sipping champagne, chatting, laughing and so on.
Highlight of the evening was swiss model, Ronja Furrer! Such a beauty.. wow and i mean her name.. who wasn't in love with "Ronja die Räubertochter", back then?

eleven campaign-shoot II with Brandon Reis
Oh my good! I am so happy how everything turned out. It was totally worth it getting up at 5 a.m. 2 mornings in a row for being the very first ones on the glacier except 2 skiers and 1 skidoo that were testing skis instead of giving us their ride..
We ate breakfast on almost 3000m altitude. At 10a.m. we got what we were looking for so we chilled for a bit, packed the camera away and rode for ourself the slushy-spring-park and slopes!
Anyway, i wished i could show already the real piece we made. But you know the rules...
Now i am looking forward for photo III and IV, coming up real soon.

Scouting-days

Been busy
So today we shot another portfolio-test. We produced the lookbook of Julia Brumm, fashion-student @ ESMOD Munich.

Studio-nights
Yesterday was pretty heavy. 2 Shootings in one day in 2 totally different places. Plus each one of them was totally different then the other and took me a lot of brainstorming the last weeks. Was a good experience too, having so much ideas/plans/things in your head at the same time and not mixing everything up.
So after laax i headed straight in the studio in Zurich and spent all night shooting fashion. We shot the collection of Charlotte Ernst, an up-coming Fashion-Designer from Germany. On the set was also Mitzi for hair&makeup and wonderful Vanessa V. from Visage-modelagency.

eleven-ad-shoot part I
Yesterday i was shooting Ursina Haller for her upcoming eleven-advertisement. The boys and girls at eleven always let me do my thing which is the best thing ever! I love concept-work. You can come up with an idea, plan it, make some tests, think more, throw your plans in the garbage cause you just realised that it won't work, think more, even more, plus another test and there you are, hopefully. The clouds in Laax were not really co-operating with us but we got what we were looking for. Thanks to Ursina! For all the male-shredders outthere: have a look on her ad in fall and then go out and work on your style!
After working for almost a year on something, spending hours thinking, painting, sketching or testing in the snow, it feels unbelievable good when everything turns out as you wanted it!

Morocco IV
Yesterday night: Imagine a big place with lots of different scents, noisy and loud, thousands of people, 2/3rd tourists and we're in the middle having a photoshoot at night! It was sucha special experience since the people were not used to this kind of thing and formed a big circle around us. Everybody stayed calm and nice.
Today was another day off and tomorrow as well before leaving back home on tuesday. We spent the day sightseeing like Jardin Majorelle, Djemaa el Fna-Market e.c.
Light is still great! So much inspiration here as you can see.

Been scouting a bunch these days. There is sucha beautiful light everywhere.
And the people here are very, very special. Funny like hell but also sometimes pretty much of a challenge. Tomorrow we're going to shoot on the Medina-Market. Wonder how that turns out, with all the bums, local-kids e.c.

Red Bull Soundclash 2009
This is a very lucky shot i took during the Red Bull Soundclash @ Frison, Fribourg!
I was shooting the action and all of a sudden, the girl in front of me held her camera up and took a snap. I couldnt resist when i saw the 2 main-characters of that night, Nega and Elia singing together. In fact, her photo looks from far away a bit like a stars-wars-figure...

Winning "Bestes Bergbild 2009"
Last Spring i got this link for a photoaward were tirol-tourisme was looking for mountain-photography. I wasn't very hopeful about all this but gave it a try! Long story short: I ended up winning that award with Reto Kestenholz' fs3 in Meiringen which is on 2nd position in the very first book! During the ceremony @ Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol, Seefeld, 2 weeks ago, i got this paycheck from Josef Margreiter, on the picture to the right, about Euros 5000.-. Woohaa! The lady in the middle is Melanie Mühl. She's a very talented writer and won 5ks as well, for the best mountain-tale.
I re-invested straight into Canon, Eizo, Epson and Wacom ;D
